Dead Venue Sessions: Planta Industrial x China Chalet, NYC
YEAR 2026
Planta Industrial lights up what was once China Chalet. An iconic New York venue that has now gone dark, for one final blast of raw, loud and unapologetic live music. More than a show, this is a harsh reminder of what is lost when live music isn't supported, and another warning as more and more venues around the globe close their doors for good. We don't think that's okay. So, we brought one of New York's more iconic underground music spaces back to life for one last performance. Opened in 1975 as a Chinese restaurant and banquet hall at 47 Broadway in Manhattan's Financial District. From the mid-2000s, China Chalet’s upstairs rooms took on a second life. Psych rock, hip hop, electronic music, DJs, drag and performance all found a home there. The restaurant itself barely changed and guests climbed a carpeted staircase, passed through dining rooms and a mirrored hallway, and emerged into a dance floor that was known to shake when hundreds of people jumped together. By the next morning, it was a restaurant again. China Chalet closed in 2020, after 45 years. Welcome to Dead Venue Sessions — a series documenting the places where the music once shook the walls, but are now silent. We bring them back for one final show and encourage you to support your local scene. Planta Industrial Keep Live Music Alive.
